Maybe you’re one of those who still don’t understand what a daily note is for.
I was there too. Here, I share 5 vital reasons that can help you.
I first met a daily note in September 2020 (not so long ago).
It was due to Roam Research.
Yes, my first thought was, “What the heck is this?”
I wrote an article at that time (“How to Create Your Second Brain, and Why Roam Research is Pushing to it”).
It was when Roam Research generated $1 million in annual recurring revenue and had a $200 million seed valuation.
Reading that article, I can only laugh about how my PKM was at that time.
Fortunately, when you push hard towards something in life, there’s just one option: improve.
Since then, daily notes have become an essential element in my PKM. As simple as this: I cannot live without them.
Here, you have the 5 reasons you were waiting for:
1. Context
A daily note gives you context to know when something happened. That helps a lot to remember things.
2. Journaling
A daily note forces you to journal because now you have an easy place to write things down.
Writing equals thinking. Thinking equals understanding. Understanding equals learning. Learning equals growing. Growing equals a life of fulfillment that always ends up in happiness.
3. Planning
A daily note forces you to plan every day, defining and writing down all your goals and how you’re supposed to achieve them.
Writing gives you clarity because you’re seeing it. There’s no doubt. There are no excuses.
4. Capturing
A daily note gives you a one and only place to capture things.
It’s a unique entry point for everything: a task, a thought, a reminder, a content captured on the Internet.
It’s the starting point for everything that happens throughout the day.
5. Control and Security
A daily note gives you a sensation of control and security because everything’s on it. Safe and sound.
Now I know why these “Roam guys” started with a daily note and why most note-taking apps use this feature as an essential entry point to their world.
This is tagging by context.
In this case, context equals “when this thing happened”, a “time context”, one pretty useful and intuitive for human beings.
Takeaways
Daily notes equal a one-and-only entry point to your PKM.
Context, journal, plan, capture, control, and security are just a few of the reasons why you’ll find them helpful.
Use it, and you’ll find out more.
