People usually ask me how I can try so many apps in such a short amount of time.
It’s due to 3 sensations you can feel pretty soon that never fail.
Feeling 1: Frictionless
At first, you can accept a little bit of friction when trying a new app.
You should try to understand what the developers wanted to do with their app. Please, always give them a chance! They deserve it! There’s a ton of work even behind the simplest app you can imagine.
Try to understand how they thought they’d solve the problem they’re trying to solve.
If you say more than 5 times in your trying process, “this is a bull*”, forget about it. Leave it.
Life’s not for suffering.
Why do I say that?
Because all the apps I’ve ended up using in the long-term didn’t have any friction at all at the beginning.
Just luck?
I don’t think so after dedicating more than 3 decades of testing software.
Feeling 2: Flow
You run smoothly through the app.
You just use your common sense.
You don’t need to memorize tough steps to keep going.
Everything runs as easy as your thoughts.
Feeling 3: Desire
You can’t stop using the app.
In fact, you want to launch it, navigate all over the place, and discover new things.
You get hooked on it.
Takeaways
- Don’t force things when trying a new app.
- Everything has to come easily to your brain.
- Avoid excessive friction.
- If it’s too much, sooner or later, you’ll end up leaving the app, and you’ll have wasted your time.
