4 Apps Knowledge Workers Can Use to Promote Serendipity to Improve Their PKM and Lives

3 min read

Serendipity: the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for.

Would you like to promote it so that you can improve your PKM and life?

Here, I share 4 apps that make it possible (and an additional resource ;-)).

App 1: Readwise

This app allows you to revisit and learn from your ebook and article highlights (and many more sources).

Later on, you can check your highlights on the app, reviewing them as often as you like.

The point is you can schedule a daily email where the app randomly sends you some highlights.

I receive it daily to:

  • Get inspired.
  • Recall my thoughts.
  • Revisit those things that resonated with me.

By the way, they’re developing a Read Later App that’s been the best one I’ve ever tried. It’s still in beta, but sooner or later, they’ll launch it.

App 2: Shortform

This app allows you to access amazing book summaries.

It’s a way to determine if a book is worth it or just take some ideas based on the summary.

Again, I receive a daily email where I can have a quick look at book summaries that inspire me a lot.

App 3: Refind

A beautiful service I love.

Every day, I receive an email with articles and content related to my interests.

Refind learns from your feedback (AI), so the content you receive is more accurate as you keep giving feedback to the app.

App 4: My Mind

Unique and beautiful app. Period.

You have 2 ways to promote serendipity:

Way 1: Tags

Thanks to AI, MyMind creates tags by itself.

Clicking on tags you didn’t create open “your mind” to extraordinary discoveries.

I’ve found relationships I could have never thought of by myself.

Way 2: Clear feature

It hasn’t been launched publicly yet, but I’ve already tested it.

This feature shows you your thoughts randomly.

You decide if you want to keep or forget about them (even with your keyboard!).

They describe it perfectly:

“Like walking through your garden, admiring your favorite flowers. Sometimes you see a little weed and pluck it out. Other times you discover something blooming you’d forgotten you planted long ago.”

Final Bonus

Last but not least.

If you’re an Obsidian user, I recommend installing Obsidian’s Random Note plugin.

This plugin opens a note at random from your vault.

Just with a hotkey, you can get inspired from content you haven’t considered for a long time.

Takeaways

  • Serendipity has been searched for by human beings a lot.
  • Even buildings, research centers, or workspaces are designed to promote it.
  • You can make it easier by using these great apps and services.
  • Take the best out of your PKM. Promote serendipity to grow.
